I think they’re fine! Angela is 19 years old, she’s supposed to look and sound younger. And Maria’s outfit has been modernised but she still looks like Maria. Most importantly the ambiance and feel of the town looks really well done! I think a lot of people are focusing on the smallest details than the important ones

@@Misolation I just saw a community fan made correction of Angela on 4chan which is faithful to the original game and it looks much better. Angela is not supposed to look and sound younger at all, the complete opposite is true. Her pain and suffering has made her mature and look, speak and behave older due to what happened to her in life. She has had to evolve quicker than most girls her age. The new Angela sounds like something you would find in a modern teenie film. That's not my Angela. Of course ppl will focus on the smallest details, because many of us grew up with these characters. The old and orignal characters were so well done that their image was written into my memory in a way that makes me feel like I actually met these characters in real life when I was younger. The characters in this game are the heart and soul of it all. Change them too much and you'll lose that nostalgic magic that made this series great in the first place. As an adult man with two kids myself, I feel sorry for how the new generation of gamers aren't more aware of these things. Attention to detail is of utter most importance. The same can be said for the original game - respect and cherish the original creation because this is a remaster of just that. This is not playing in an alternate universe. It's the same universe, the same story and the same game as before - ideally with a few upgrades instead of downgrades. Nothing less than perfection must be the goal here, and nothing less than perfection is acceptable here. Ambience feels alright but I would have to see more to really judge.

I see where you’re coming from, but I still think you and a lot of others are being much too critical. As you say with the ambiance, you’ll have to play it to see it. As I say with Angela and Maria, you should do the same. We’ve only seen small glimpses. And I don’t agree with the whole “she looks older than she is bc of what she’s been through” thing. There’s plenty of trauma survivors who look nothing like what they’ve been through. It’s a nitpick for me that’s blown out of proportion really. What matters mainly is that Angela’s story, her animations, and her voice acting is delivered on par with the original. Yes, there will be changes because of the modern audience. But let’s not act like the original game didn’t have flaws. I’ve grown to LOVE those flaws and SH2 2001 is my GOAT game, but I also acknowledge that some of these flaws wouldn’t transition well to a modern game. Even if the new game is REALLY good, I’m still going to be bouncing between it and the original. The magic of Silent Hill 2 cannot be replicated exactly, otherwise it would feel like a cheap, fancier looking copy. As long as they stay true to the story, the characters, and give us an enjoyable experience I think as fans of the OG we should be open to see what they bring to the table. I could be wrong and the game could be terrible, but we’re not getting anywhere shitting on it before it comes out. Small details are important, but a lot of things are blown out of proportion bc it’s popular to talk down on it rn

@@Misolation You said it yourself, "as long as they stay true to the story, characters" etc. Well, staying true to them is also respecting how they look, sound and behave. All of this makes who they actually are. If we're going to be taking examples of other real life cases where ppl don't look more mature despite going through difficult things they went through, where does it end? We're not taking inspiration by the other cases that you mention. The matter of the fact is that in the original game, which this remaster is trying to replicate, Angela was displayed differently from what we have recently seen in the remaster. Thus, we must respect that the original game chose to depict Angela in a certain way, in a way where she looks, sounds and behaves older, and the remaster must follow suit. It must. There is no alternative here and there is no discussion to be had. It must remain faithful to the original. To be precisely, I think the perfect time and opportunity to "crap" on it is now, because now we can still force a change. If ppl decide to criticize it later on, by then it will be too late and the game will ship with these flaws without being able to correct it. This has to be addressed now before it's too late. Once you make ppl upset by launching in an unfaithful state, there is no going back and it's going to be extremely difficult to rectify the situation afterwards. I will only accept the best when it comes to SH2, because that is what it deserves. If the Silent Hill series is to be revived and formed back into its former glory, it must start by being the best again, not by accepting anything less than that.

Just like the Fog in Silent Hill 2 was only there because they couldn’t graphically handle presenting the game in old consoles without the fog, I’m liable to think that Angela as well as James and Maria looking as old as they were was also graphical. All characters in SH2 have a similar facial structure from being crafted from the same model template. But just like films, older games have a history of portraying older actors as younger. If Angela is 19, why would they throw her in and treat her like she’s in her 30s in this? Angela has always been a terrified, traumatised girl on the inside. If they portray that well here then I will be insanely happy because the original Angela story arc changed my life. It’s understandable to not want change, but stubbornness to work around and reimagine certain things is what’s held a lot back. Resident Evil 4 Remake for example. Lots of changes. But a lot of them elevated the game higher the the original for me. I’m not sure if SH2 will do the same but I hope it does or at least hits on par. But again we won’t know till we play it. I plan on streaming it as soon as it’s out and I’m going in with a completely open mind. Otherwise what’s the point? The game literally looks faithful as hell story wise. Almost beat for beat. All that needs to be tweaked are awkward animations and from there it lays on the story and the delivery to carry. You’re speaking to a man with Silent Hill 2 tattoos on his body, trust me, I get where you’re coming from. But I’m not going to sit here with rose tinted glasses on and pick on about everything until I finish the remake in its entirety and make a decision for myself there. Agreed. But you haven’t played the game yet, so both you and I have no idea if it’s worthy or not. And I’ll be finding that out once the preorder download drops 😂

Wholly agree! I think Angela looks fine! there were just a few awkward angles where her shoulders looked super narrow but that’s about it and they can easily be fixed as you said. Yep! I’m excited 🔥

That could be true, but there’s no way to know until we play the game! I’m willing to give it a chance before I shoot it down. The ambiance is excellently done, the fog looks really good, and aside from some janky animations and awkward angles the characters look well done. It could end up being bad, BUT I’d rather give it a chance first yk? We’ll have to see

The only pipe swings I have an issue with are the ones on the ground because they look much too weak, otherwise it’s fine. I do agree that the impacts have been improved. I would like a BIT more impact but that’s just me being picky. I’m playing it either way!
